Overview

Following a recent incident, Khan Bank promptly devised a comprehensive plan to address performance issues. Immediate measures included disabling consul discovery, optimizing cache management on the OCH frontend, and segregating Redis. Simultaneously, a long-term transformation plan involving OCH containerization was outlined.

To swiftly enhance performance, the bank first disabled consul discovery and implemented a traditional configuration method, resulting in a notable reduction in loading balancer processing time. Additionally, caching API data from OMNI channel HUB configuration on middleware mitigated the impact on backend servers, accelerating web and application processing. A thorough performance bottleneck analysis prompted the implementation of Back-end cache segregation (Redis segregation), leading to improved performance and increased system endurance.

The adoption of cloud-native technology on OCH has proven advantageous, providing stability, reliability, auto-scaling, self-healing, and zero downtime. The OCH containerization project, designed to automate scaling, reduce application startup time, enable automated CI/CD, and streamline deployments, promises separate maintenance and troubleshooting of servers, aligning with the bank’s commitment to optimal performance in its digital transformation journey.

Implementation Process

The OCH containerization project was effectively executed, leveraging advanced technologies, notably the Mirantis Kubernetes runtime platform (formerly Docker Enterprise/UCP). This platform facilitated the rapid and seamless deployment of cloud-native applications at scale across diverse environments for Khan Bank.

The successful integration of Azure DevOps into the project ensured smooth coordination among various automation, continuous integration (CI), and continuous delivery (CD) platforms, resulting in the flawless implementation of system changes.

Jenkins, functioning as the CI/CD automation server, played a crucial role in the project’s execution. The migration of four core backend services to Docker Kubernetes runtime technology was completed, aligning with cloud-native requirements. This encompassed defining the features and specifications of the backend services and seamlessly integrating them into the existing containerization runtime platform. The outcome was a suite of lightweight, auto-scaling, self-healing, and zero-downtime containers, achieved through robust CI/CD processes.
