Mashreq partners with Clari5 for fraud detection with generative AI
By Divya Shah
Why it matters: The collaboration highlights generative AI’s role in strengthening fraud detection, improving investigation efficiency and supporting customer trust in digital banking.
Mashreq, a financial institution in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, has launched new generative artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities within its fraud detection platform in collaboration with Clari5, a Perfios company.
The new capabilities are designed to strengthen fraud detection, improve analyst productivity and support more informed investigative decisions. The launch builds on the ongoing collaboration between Mashreq and Clari5 to enhance the bank’s fraud management capabilities.
Ahmed Abdelaal, Group Chief Executive Officer at Mashreq, said, “At Mashreq, we are committed to implementing AI responsibly in areas where it can have a meaningful impact, strengthening the resilience of our operations and the trust our customers place in us.”
The generative AI features aim to help fraud teams bring together information from different sources, accelerate investigations and identify potential risks more effectively. By supporting analysts with relevant information and insights, the technology is intended to complement human expertise and judgement rather than replace it.
Nitin Chugh, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Perfios, said,“Our collaboration with Mashreq demonstrates how generative AI can help banks tackle the growing complexity of financial crime by bringing together disparate information, accelerating investigations and enabling better-informed decisions.”
The platform enhancements are also intended to support a faster and more consistent customer experience through improved fraud detection, while reinforcing consumer confidence in the bank’s ability to protect accounts and respond to emerging risks.
The launch reflects the growing use of generative AI in banking operations, particularly in areas where financial institutions need to process complex information, support investigation teams and strengthen responses to financial crime. For banks, these applications could help improve operational efficiency while maintaining human oversight in critical fraud-related decisions.
