Japanese Resona Bank invests $20m in Tata Capital Fund, Deepens India ties
By Puja Sharma
Japan-based Resona Bank has committed $20 million to Tata Capital Growth Fund III and entered into a strategic partnership with Tata Capital, strengthening its focus on India’s growing investment and business landscape.
Under a non-exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two organisations will work together to support Japanese companies exploring expansion and investment opportunities in India. Resona Bank’s corporate clients will be able to draw on Tata Capital’s local market expertise, network and financial services capabilities as they assess potential ventures in the country.
Resona Bank has invested $20 million as a limited partner in Tata Capital Growth Fund III LP, providing the Japanese lender with exposure to a growth-focused investment vehicle managed by Tata Capital. The investment comes as Japanese financial institutions and companies increase their engagement with India across sectors including manufacturing, sales, procurement and research and development.
The partnership will focus on connecting Japanese businesses with financing solutions and other opportunities in the Indian market. It is also expected to give Tata Capital greater access to Japan’s corporate ecosystem while strengthening Resona Bank’s ability to provide local support to clients entering or expanding in India.
Rajiv Sabharwal, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Capital, said in the company announcement: “The partnership combines Tata Capital’s deep understanding of the Indian market with Resona Bank’s strong relationships across the Japanese business community.”
The collaboration reflects the growing importance of India in Japanese companies’ regional expansion strategies, while giving Resona Bank a local financial partner to help clients navigate the country’s investment and operating environment.
For Tata Capital, the partnership expands its engagement with Japanese businesses and investors. For Resona Bank, it strengthens its ability to support corporate customers seeking to establish, expand or invest in India.
