Shakepay has become a participant in the Interac e-Transfer service, strengthening its connection to one of the country’s most widely used payment networks and expanding its payments infrastructure.

The company said the move has established a more direct connection with the Interac network, giving it greater control over how customers transfer money into and out of the Shakepay platform. The participation is expected to improve operational efficiency while providing a stronger foundation for future product development.

Interac e-Transfer is one of Canada’s most commonly used digital payment services, enabling consumers to send and receive funds between financial institutions. By becoming a participant, Shakepay has joined the network directly rather than relying solely on intermediary banking relationships.

Shakepay said the development has aligned with its strategy of making access to Bitcoin and digital financial services more familiar for Canadian users by integrating with trusted domestic payment infrastructure.

Since its launch, Shakepay has focused on enabling Canadians to buy and hold Bitcoin, transfer money and manage savings through a single platform. According to the company, more than 1.5 million Canadians now use its services.

The announcement came as digital asset platforms continue to strengthen links with established financial infrastructure to improve user experience and increase adoption. Interac said its e-Transfer service processed more than 1.6 billion transactions during the previous year, highlighting its role as a key component of Canada’s payments ecosystem.

Shakepay said becoming an Interac e-Transfer participant has represented another step in building a broader Canadian financial platform, supporting the development of new products designed to help customers move money more efficiently, access Bitcoin and participate in the evolving digital economy.
