GLN expands QR payment coverage with Weixin Pay integration
By Aarav Garg

GLN International has expanded its QR payment coverage across mainland China through an integration with the Weixin Pay network operated by Tenpay Global, strengthening cross-border payment access for Korean travellers and mobile wallet users.
The move allows GLN users to make QR-code payments across a broader network of merchants in China, extending beyond existing UnionPay-affiliated locations into the widely used Weixin Pay ecosystem. The expanded coverage supports a range of everyday transactions, including retail purchases, transport, taxis and dining.
“Through this expansion, travelers will be able to enjoy a more seamless QR payment experience across a much wider range of everyday scenarios in China,” said Suk Lee, CEO of GLN International. “GLN will continue leading its global payment network to provide users with the same simple and convenient payment experience overseas as they enjoy at home.”
The integration builds on GLN’s existing partnership with UnionPay International announced last year and reflects growing efforts by Asian payment providers to improve interoperability between domestic digital wallet ecosystems. Cross-border QR payments have become an increasingly important area of focus for banks and FinTech firms as international travel and regional digital commerce continue to recover and expand.
Unlike traditional overseas payment systems that often require separate apps, local wallets or physical cards, GLN’s service enables users to pay directly through Korean financial and super-app platforms already used domestically. The company said the service is currently accessible through multiple Korean banking and FinTech applications, with additional integrations expected to roll out in phases.
The expansion highlights the wider trend towards embedded cross-border payments, where banks and FinTech platforms are looking to simplify international transactions through familiar digital channels. As QR-code payments become more deeply embedded across Asian markets, interoperability between payment networks is increasingly seen as critical to improving user convenience and supporting regional digital commerce.
For financial institutions, partnerships linking domestic wallets with international merchant ecosystems also create opportunities to strengthen customer engagement while reducing friction in travel-related payments and remittances.
