SumUp launches loyalty tool for SMB payments
By Aarav Garg

SumUp has launched SumUp Loyalty, a digital rewards programme that enables small businesses to offer automated loyalty schemes through existing payment infrastructure. The feature is available across the UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain and Italy, and requires no additional hardware.
The programme integrates directly into the payment process, allowing merchants to create digital stamp cards or points-based rewards via the SumUp dashboard. Customers link their payment card once through the SumUp Local app, after which rewards are automatically applied with each purchase, removing the need for physical cards or manual scanning.
Joseph Flynn, SumUp Global Head of Consumer, said, “Small businesses have never had access to the loyalty tools that big chains take for granted. We’ve built SumUp Loyalty so that any merchant can reward their regulars in minutes — no app development, no extra hardware, no complexity.”
SumUp Loyalty also includes customer engagement tools such as push notifications and targeted promotions. An automated “Autopilot” feature identifies inactive customers and sends personalised offers to encourage repeat visits.
The launch follows earlier testing in the UK and Ireland, where the programme saw adoption among thousands of merchants.
Alongside the loyalty feature, SumUp has introduced the SumUp Local app, which enables users to discover participating businesses, track rewards and manage payments in one place.
The company has also unveiled SumUp Register, a countertop point-of-sale system designed for retail and hospitality. It features a dual-screen setup with separate displays for merchants and customers, allowing users to view transactions and loyalty progress during checkout.
The device comes with built-in POS software and no rental fees, with additional features such as multi-device order syncing available through a paid upgrade.
