piereusPiraeus Bank has partnered with Accenture to establish a new artificial intelligence (AI) hub aimed at scaling the development and deployment of AI across its operations.

According to the bank, the hub will serve as a central platform for designing, developing, and implementing advanced AI capabilities across its full value chain. The initiative is supported by AI research firm Anthropic and is expected to enhance key areas including compliance, operations, customer experience, and risk management.

The AI hub also seeks to strengthen talent development by attracting and upskilling specialised professionals through targeted recruitment and structured learning programmes. These include training initiatives delivered via Accenture’s AI-focused learning platforms.

This move builds on Piraeus Bank’s ongoing collaboration with Accenture, which began in 2021 with the adoption of a cloud-first operating model. The latest initiative will leverage Accenture’s data and AI Centre of Excellence in Athens to accelerate the bank’s broader digital transformation strategy.

Harry Margaritis, Group Chief Operating Officer at Piraeus Bank, described the launch as a “strategic inflection point” for the organisation. “We are advancing from individual AI deployments to a unified, enterprise-level capability that is deeply embedded in how the bank operates,” he said.

He also emphasised the importance of responsible AI adoption. “Through our collaboration with Accenture and the integration of Anthropic’s technology, including its flagship model Claude, we aim to scale advanced AI responsibly, anchored in strong governance, transparency and human control,” Margaritis added.

Separately, the bank continues to expand its digital offerings. It recently launched Snappi, Greece’s first European Central Bank-licensed neobank, in collaboration with Natech and Neptune International, further strengthening its position in digital banking innovation.
