Lloyds Banking Group appoints Sameer Gupta as AI chief

Lloyds Banking Group has appointed Sameer Gupta as its new Chief Data and AI Officer, as the lender accelerates the use of artificial intelligence across its operations.
Gupta will join in June and report to Ron van Kemenade, Group Chief Operating Officer. He joins from DBS Bank, where he currently serves as Chief Analytics Officer, bringing more than 30 years of experience in leading large-scale technology and AI-driven transformation programmes in financial services.
In his new role, Gupta will lead the next phase of Lloyds Banking Group’s AI strategy. His responsibilities will include scaling AI adoption across the organisation to improve customer experience, enhance fraud prevention, and provide employees with better tools and insights. He will also oversee the responsible, transparent, and secure use of AI, ensuring strong governance and compliance with regulatory standards.
Commenting on the appointment, Ron van Kemenade said: “Sameer brings deep expertise and a strong track record of applying AI in ways that deliver real, practical benefits for customers. His leadership will help ensure AI enhances customer experiences while maintaining the trust that is fundamental to banking.”
