Trulioo joins Google AP2 to secure agent-led payments

Trulioo has joined Google’s Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), a move aimed at strengthening trust, consent and accountability in agent-led digital payments as artificial intelligence plays a growing role in commerce.
The Vancouver-based identity verification firm stated that its participation in AP2 will focus on integrating verified identity and authorisation into payments initiated by AI agents acting on behalf of users. The initiative builds on Trulioo’s existing relationship with Google, which already uses the Trulioo Global Identity Platform for Know Your Customer (KYC) checks across its payments operations, including fraud and abuse prevention.
Launched by Google, AP2 is an open, standardised framework designed to allow AI agents to securely initiate and complete transactions across platforms. The protocol aims to create a common set of rules for how agents interact with financial institutions, FinTechs and merchants, while maintaining transparency, user consent and regulatory compliance.
Within AP2, Trulioo plans to demonstrate how its Digital Agent Passport (DAP) can be integrated into the protocol to establish trust in agent-led payments. Combined with its Know Your Agent (KYA) framework, the DAP is intended to function as a neutral trust layer, ensuring that digital agents are authenticated, authorised and accountable before executing transactions.
“The future of commerce belongs to agents that can think, act and transact independently, but only if they can be trusted,” said Vicky Bindra, CEO of Trulioo. “By joining AP2, we’re helping define the identity backbone for autonomous payments, where verified agents transact transparently, responsibly and at machine speed.”
The development comes as the financial services industry grapples with how to manage risk, compliance and consumer protection in emerging models of agentic commerce. As AI agents increasingly perform tasks such as payments, subscriptions and procurement, regulators and market participants are seeking standardised mechanisms to ensure clear accountability and reduce fraud exposure.
Founded in 2011, Trulioo provides identity verification services spanning KYC, Know Your Business (KYB) and KYA through a single global platform. The company positions its participation in AP2 as part of a broader effort to establish trusted infrastructure for AI-driven financial services and cross-platform digital transactions.
