Gumtree, Mangopay partner to enable on-platform payments
By Vriti Gothi

Gumtree has partnered with Mangopay, a modular payment infrastructure provider for platforms, to power its evolution from a traditional classifieds site into a fully transactional consumer-to-consumer (C2C) marketplace.
This collaboration represents a significant milestone in Gumtree’s digital transformation journey. Leveraging Mangopay’s wallet-first payments technology, Gumtree will enable secure, seamless on-platform transactions, transforming the user experience and reinforcing its position as a trusted destination for sustainable and circular commerce.
With more than 10 million monthly visitors and nearly 2 million active listings, Gumtree will begin introducing wallet-first payments across selected categories, ahead of a full rollout in 2026. The initiative marks a decisive move away from offline payments, creating a unified, safer, and more engaging transactional environment for buyers and sellers.
For over 25 years, Gumtree has played a pivotal role in extending product lifecycles, reducing waste, and helping millions of consumers access affordable alternatives. Through Mangopay’s white-label wallet infrastructure, users will soon be able to pay and receive funds directly within the platform, enhancing trust, security, and convenience. The partnership also enables instant re-spend functionality, allowing sellers to reuse their earnings immediately to purchase other items on Gumtree.
This wallet-based approach, which has already driven over €10 billion in annual re-spend volume across the Mangopay ecosystem, is designed to foster continuous engagement and loyalty, while unlocking new growth opportunities for platforms built on trust and sustainability.
“Partnering with Mangopay marks a key step in our transition to become a fully transactional C2C marketplace for the home, where transactions are effortless and secure,” said Kim Faura, Gumtree’s Joint Managing Director. “Their advanced payment infrastructure and expertise provide the foundation we need to build greater trust with our users and grow our community of buyers and sellers.”
Mark Fleming, Chief Commercial Officer at Mangopay, added, “We’re excited to support Gumtree’s transformation from a traditional classifieds site into a fully transactional C2C marketplace. With our wallet-based payments infrastructure, Gumtree gains the flexibility and scale needed to drive engagement and accelerate growth.”
