By Vriti Gothi

Handelsbanken has partnered with Vilja Loans, a next-generation SaaS lending platform, to modernise its technology landscape and strengthen its customer-centric lending operations.
With deep roots in local communities and a long-standing reputation for stability and service excellence, Handelsbanken sought a future-proof, cloud-native solution to replace its legacy loan system. The new platform, delivered by Vilja, was implemented within just six months, a testament to the strong collaboration between both teams and a shared commitment to operational excellence.
“We were looking for a modern and cost-efficient solution that could support our loan operations going forward. The project was executed flawlessly, delivered on time and within budget. The cooperation with the Vilja-team in the project has worked very well,” said Stefan Evholt, Head of International IT, Handelsbanken.
The deployment of Vilja Loans provides Handelsbanken with a scalable and secure foundation for innovation, enabling faster product launches, enhanced customer experiences, and streamlined loan management. The cloud-native platform aligns with the bank’s long-term strategy to deliver high-quality financial services powered by advanced technology and resilient infrastructure.
“Handelsbanken is one of the most high-ranked banks in Europe, and we are proud they chose Vilja. Across the market, we see an increased demand from large- and mid-sized banks to transform from legacy to modern, cloud-native solutions,” said Fredrik Ulvenholm, CEO, Vilja.
As the financial industry continues its shift toward digital-first, customer-driven models, this partnership positions Handelsbanken at the forefront of innovation—balancing trusted banking values with the agility and efficiency of modern cloud technology. The successful go-live not only reinforces Handelsbanken’s reputation for reliability but also underscores its readiness to meet evolving customer expectations in an increasingly digital banking landscape.
