Gala Technology, a FinTech firm, has expanded its Pay by QR solution, extending its application beyond automotive dealerships to a diverse range of sectors, including luxury retail, home improvement, and on-site service provision.

The expansion follows strong performance and adoption of the technology in the automotive sector, where it has enabled dealerships to securely finalise high-value transactions on the showroom floor. The Pay by QR capability is designed to allow merchants to accept deposits or full payments on the spot via QR code removing the dependency on traditional point-of-sale (POS) hardware.

Through the use of QR codes and customer-owned devices, the solution facilitates real-time payments using Open Banking as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. This provides a streamlined alternative to conventional payment infrastructure, allowing transactions to be completed immediately following a showroom consultation, on-site survey, or service visit.

By eliminating the need for handheld terminals or back-office coordination, Pay by QR addresses operational inefficiencies that can delay the completion of sales. Once the service or consultation is complete, the merchant generates a unique, secure QR code which the customer scans with their smartphone to initiate immediate payment.

Following its success in the automotive sector, Gala Technology’s Pay by QR solution is seeing adoption across a range of industries where timely payment collection is critical. Home improvement businesses are using the system to take deposits directly after site surveys, while luxury showrooms are enabling instant, high-value purchases on the floor. In the field services sector, providers are leveraging the platform to finalise payments immediately upon job completion without the need for traditional POS terminals.

In alignment with PCI DSS standards, the solution ensures compliance and payment security, with built-in fraud prevention protocols. Its scalable architecture allows seamless deployment across both small enterprises and complex, multi-location businesses, supporting a wide range of operating models.

The launch of Pay by QR reflects an industry-wide shift towards digitally-enabled, customer-centric payments. In high-consideration sales environments where timing is critical, the solution empowers businesses to convert interest into action, supporting operational efficiency and enhancing the end-customer experience.

Jason Mace, CEO of Gala Technology, said, “The automotive industry was the proving ground. Car dealerships were able to close more high-ticket sales by offering instant, secure QR code payments in the car. Now, we’re taking that same proven concept to any business that wants to capture the sale at the point of decision whether that’s in a showroom or during a home installation survey.”
