Mambu powers InnBucks MicroBank’s full-scale digital transformation in Africa
By Gloria Methri
InnBucks MicroBank Limited has partnered with Mambu to support its transition from a digital wallet provider to a fully digital bank. This shift marks a significant development in InnBucks’ growth as it looks to expand its financial services footprint across Zimbabwe and into other African markets.
Originally launched in 2022 under Simbisa Brands Limited, InnBucks started by offering wallet services tied to the company’s network of quick-service restaurants. Over time, it has expanded into broader financial services, including personal and business banking, cross-border remittances, lending, and digital payments. It now operates through more than 500 outlets in Zimbabwe and serves around 3 million users.
With over 500 outlets nationwide and a user base that has grown to approximately 3 million, InnBucks is making a significant impact on the Zimbabwean economy. The new digital bank will be underpinned by Amazon Web Services (AWS), which will provide the cloud infrastructure for the transformation. InnBucks joins an impressive line-up of Mambu customers across Africa, including TymeBank, Platcorp Holdings Limited, and GIG CFI.
By adopting Mambu’s cloud-based platform, built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), InnBucks aims to handle increasing operational demands more efficiently. The new infrastructure is expected to help the company roll out new services faster and manage its operations with greater flexibility. Mambu’s platform is already in use by other financial institutions across Africa, giving InnBucks access to a tested and modular banking system.
The move reflects a broader trend of digital-first financial services emerging in the region, driven by the need for scalable infrastructure and broader financial access. For InnBucks, this transition offers a way to improve service delivery, keep pace with changing customer needs, and explore new markets.
