Visa has launched an artificial intelligence-powered authorisation platform designed to help banks and financial institutions modernise payment processing systems without replacing existing infrastructure.
The platform, called Visa Intelligent Authorisation, was unveiled in Singapore and operates on the Visa Acceptance Platform. It connects acquiring banks to multiple global card networks through a single API, enabling streamlined access to payment rails while reducing the complexity of integrating with separate network systems.
Transaction authorisation the real-time process of approving or declining payments remains a critical component of the global payments ecosystem. However, many legacy processing systems struggle to handle the scale and complexity of modern digital commerce. Visa’s new platform applies machine learning to analyse transaction data in real time, enabling dynamic routing decisions based on network rules, industry programmes, and regional regulatory requirements.
According to the company, the system provides 99.999% uptime and supports an average global approval rate of 96.3%. The platform can function either as a full core processing engine for acquirers or as an enhancement layer integrated into existing authorisation infrastructure.
In addition to transaction routing, the system includes real-time risk alerts and a centralised analytics dashboard designed to support monitoring, settlement management, and compliance oversight. These capabilities are intended to help financial institutions respond more effectively to fraud risks while improving transaction approval rates and operational visibility.
The launch reflects broader shifts in the payments industry as financial institutions seek infrastructure capable of supporting emerging digital commerce models. The growth of digital wallets, automated commerce, and blockchain-based payment instruments is increasing demand for more intelligent and adaptable processing systems.
Visa is also positioning the platform to support future payment innovations, including transactions linked to stablecoins and AI-enabled shopping experiences. Research commissioned by Visa and conducted by YouGov found that 74% of consumers across the Asia-Pacific region already use AI tools during their shopping journeys, highlighting the increasing role of automation in commerce.
Visa Intelligent Authorisation is now available to eligible acquiring institutions through the Visa Acceptance Platform.
