Search for Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto takes new twist

The search for Satoshi Nakamoto, the illusive creator of Bitcoin, seems to reappear every few months when new candidates are found (or appear). Now a number of major publications are said to be feverishly investigating a new lead.

According to CoinDesk, an “unknown entity” has appeared from the mists with a greater claim on the title than those who came before. Australian Craig Wright last laid claim to the title of Bitcoin’s creator in May 2016. Wright, who appeared vociferous in his claims, was forced to back down when prominent cryptographers changed their minds about his candidacy.

“I believed that I could do this,” Wright wrote in a blog at the time. “I believed that I could put the years of anonymity and hiding behind me. But, as the events of this week unfolded and I prepared to publish the proof of access to the earliest keys, I broke. I do not have the courage. I cannot.”

IBS Journal investigated the nature of Satoshi Nakamoto, and all those who have claimed to be the enigmatic figure, in the June 2016 edition.
