Samsung is gearing up to bring its Samsung Pay mobile payment service to India in the first half of 2017. It has partnered with American Express for the launch and is also looking at tie ups with Visa and Mastercard.

Two possible roadblocks…Samsung Pay requires NFC-equipped PoS terminals for some of its features, which would mean upgrades at merchants across India. The service also only works with Samsung’s high-end smartphones, although the company does have over 2.5 million Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, and Galaxy Note5 (which support the offering) customers in India.
