Nets acquires Finnish firms Poplatek and Poplapay

Payment solutions provider, Nets has announced the acquisition of Finnish software developer Poplatek and payment terminal service provider Poplapay in a bid to fuel its payment terminal service capabilities.

CEO of Merchant Services at Nets, Robert Hoffmann, said, “Our ambition is to become a pan-European payments champion. Poplatek is an agile and high performing tech company, and Poplapay has solid capabilities within payment terminal services. Together, they will help us increase our flexibility to better accommodate different customer needs across Europe and provide best-in-class payment acceptance solutions, also going forward.”

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Nets‘ capability for delivering payment acceptance solutions to European merchants. It was completed on the 8th of January 2020.

CEO of Poplatek, Mikko Virtanen, said, “Becoming part of a leading pan-European industry player like Nets is very exciting for us. We look forward to taking part in the European journey that Nets has embarked on and bringing our skilled teams together to develop solutions for the benefit of merchants across Europe.”

CEO of Poplapay, Petri Ahti, said, “We are thrilled about the opportunity to take our service capabilities to the international playground. Becoming part of the Nets family paves the way for us to increase our market reach and gives us resources to further improve our services for existing customers as well as accelerating the development of new services designed to fulfil the demands of European customers.”

Finland-based software developer Poplatek and its spin-off company Poplapay provides payment terminal services. They employ approximately 40 people in total and have combined annual revenue of around € 5 million.

Recently, Nets announced that it has signed a five-year contract with financial literacy FinTech PCKT Money Corporation.
