Malaysia’s Affin Bank extends partnership with Wirecard

WirecardWirecard and Malaysia’s Affin Bank Berhad have extended their existing partnership focused on internet banking for Malaysian consumers.

Through the deal that was signed in 2017, more than 300,000 Affin Bank customers already have an array of services such as e-commerce and mobile payment powered by Wirecard at their disposal.

The partnership is being extended to help Affin Bank launch a complete internet banking solution, which will aid customer growth and retention, Wirecard said in a statement on Monday.

“The solution is a key product in the consumer segment and the expanded platform will help us to serve our customers better and provide an even better digital banking experience. As cashless payments continue to grow strongly in Malaysia, we look forward to working with Wirecard to provide more value-added services for our customers,” said Group Chief Executive Officer of Affin Bank, Kamarul Ariffin Mohd Jamil.

Kuala Lumpur-headquartered Affin Bank is listed on the Southeast Asian nation’s main bourse Bursa Malaysia. It has 110 branches across Malaysia which caters to both retail and corporate customers.

“Customers today expect to perform their financial tasks with ease, and this means having access to banking services that are simple, intuitive and seamlessly connected across multiple channels including mobile and web,” said Chan Chun Fee, General Manager and Country Head of Wirecard Malaysia.

Recently, Wirecard partnered with Mizuho Bank to expand into Japan and launch new payout products.

“Together with local banks, Wirecard is capitalizing on the strong trend in the Asia Pacific for internet banking with 77% of consumers preferring to bank digitally, as well as local banks’ preference to outsource technology development to third party experts,” Wirecard said.
