Deloitte to open-source identity-storing blockchain

Deloitte is expected to announce new plans to open-source its Ethereum-based Smart Identity platform, which uses the blockchain to prove citizen identity.

The Smart Identity platform features three main components: individual identity creation, institutional identity creation and analytics. Users receive three pairs of keys for login, giving them access to the system in a number of ways. Identity is created by populating fields in a smart contract. Governmental bodies can then access the blockchain (and its stored information) to approve the documents or not.

The entire smart contract is hashed in the current build, though it is hoped that soon each individual field can be hashed to give users a way to adjust how much information they give out.  According to CoinDesk, Deloitte has yet to settle on the details of the system’s open source licence.
